PRIVACY POLICY

Last updated: October 2, 2025

This Privacy Policy explains how Makima.std (“we”, “our”, “us”) collects, uses, stores, and shares information about you when you play our video games (the “Games”) and when you visit our website makimastudio.com (the “Site”). It also covers our integration with third-party platforms such as Steam.

1) Data Controller

The data controller is Makima.std. For any privacy or data protection questions, you can contact us at: contact@makimastudio.com.

2) Scope and Legal Bases (GDPR)

We process your data under the following legal bases:

  • Contract / Service performance (Art. 6.1.b GDPR): e.g. progression, multiplayer, updates.
  • Legitimate interest (Art. 6.1.f GDPR): e.g. anti-fraud, security, minimal internal analytics.
  • Consent (Art. 6.1.a GDPR): e.g. third-party analytics/advertising when legally required.
  • Legal obligation (Art. 6.1.c GDPR): e.g. responding to competent authorities.

3) Data We Collect

3.1 In Games

  • Platform account data (from Steam if you launch via Steam): pseudonymized Steam ID, authentication status, estimated country, game/DLC ownership, achievements, friends (if used in social features). These account data are managed by the platform (e.g. Valve for Steam).
  • Technical data: game version, language, OS, hardware, crash logs, truncated IP, timestamps.
  • Minimal gameplay telemetry: progression, settings, aggregated in-game events (balancing, QA, stability).
  • Online / multiplayer: matchmaking region/node, ping/latency, session identifiers.

3.2 On the Site

  • Anonymous browsing events (basic page views), technical info (user-agent), and possibly truncated/obfuscated IP.
  • Contact form: name, email, message, and transmission metadata.
  • Newsletter (if you sign up): email, optional first name, preferences.

3.3 Support

  • Information you voluntarily provide (email, screenshots, logs, dxdiag) needed for troubleshooting.

4) Steam Integration & Legal Notices

  • Our Games may use Steamworks (authentication, achievements, multiplayer, workshop where applicable). Account data are mainly processed by Valve. We only receive a limited subset required for in-game features.
  • We may consult aggregated metrics provided by Steam (e.g. game ownership, DLC, achievements) to operate features and fight fraud.
  • Steam and the Steam logo are trademarks of Valve Corporation.
  • Purchases and refunds are governed by Steam’s and Valve’s terms and conditions.

5) Main Purposes

  • Provide and maintain the Games and online services (matchmaking, saves, achievements).
  • Improve stability, performance, and balance via aggregated telemetry.
  • Ensure security (anti-fraud, abuse prevention).
  • Support (answer your tickets/emails, fix bugs).
  • Voluntary communication (newsletter if subscribed, no spam).
  • Legal compliance (requests, obligations).

6) Cookies / Analytics / Advertising

  • Site: we operate without third-party analytics cookies by default. If we add any, a consent banner will be displayed where required.
  • Games: we may include first-party analytics SDKs (legitimate interest) for technical and aggregated usage metrics. Any third-party SDK requiring consent will be notified in-game where legally required.
  • Advertising: our PC games distributed on Steam do not include behavioral advertising. If future products do, we will request your prior consent where required.

7) Data Sharing

We do not sell your data. Limited sharing may occur with:

  • Platforms (e.g. Valve/Steam) for authentication, distribution, and platform features.
  • Technical providers (hosting, crash reporting, anti-cheat) under compliant data processing agreements (Art. 28 GDPR).
  • Authorities where legally required.

8) Data Transfers Outside the EU

If data is transferred outside the European Economic Area, we apply appropriate safeguards (adequacy decisions, Standard Contractual Clauses, additional measures if necessary).

9) Data Retention

  • Technical/crash logs: minimum duration needed for troubleshooting (typically 180 days), then deletion or anonymization.
  • Support: as long as required to handle your request, with limited archiving for proof.
  • Newsletter: until you unsubscribe or your entry is deleted.
  • Aggregated telemetry: non-identifiable data retained for statistical purposes.

10) Your Rights (GDPR)

  • Access / Rectification / Erasure
  • Restriction / Objection to processing based on legitimate interest
  • Portability of data provided on consent/contract basis
  • Withdraw consent at any time (without retroactive effect)
  • Complaint to the competent supervisory authority. In France: CNIL

To exercise your rights: contact@makimastudio.com. We may verify your identity before responding.

11) Security

We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures (access controls, encryption in transit, logging) to protect your data against unauthorized access, alteration, or loss.

12) Minors

Our Games and Site are intended for a general audience. If a product targets younger users, we will adapt parental/guardian consent mechanisms according to applicable law. If you believe a minor has provided us with data without authorization, please contact us.

13) Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy. The “Last updated” date will be revised, and if material changes occur, we will provide appropriate notice (e.g. in-game or on the Site).
